“Evening Sun” gives an impression of being an echo-laden harmonica instrumental before Shines comes in with a bit of a sneak attack, giving just a taste of what was one of the most intense voices in postwar blues. Though more 80 proof instead of 101, “Brutal Hearted Woman” isn’t exactly a walk in the park. 2011 reissue; an original copy of this 45 fetches around a grand.
