Original copies of this obscure New Orleans soul 45 that was produced by Robert Booker, who later released great gospel singles by Rev. Charlie Jackson and many others on his Booker Records label. As you might guess, "Elephant Fair" was cut back when Booker was still messing with the earthly. It's a dance number where our man Chuck rhapsodizes about the monkey getting drunk and sitting on the elephant's trunk. You could follow up O.V. Wright's "Monkey Dog" with this one during your next DJ set. The flip is a ballad that makes nice use of some braying trumpet. Though these were purchased as unplayed copies, the non-audiophile quality of the pressing adds some extra Creole seasoning during playback.
