Big George Brock Club Caravan Cat Head CD $13

Big George Brock has been playing harmonica and singing the blues for over 50 years, and he executes his art with the confident, understated authority of an expert. Born in Mississippi in 1932, he subsequently moved up to St. Louis in the '50s, and operated a number of blues clubs during the '60s and '70s. He's jammed with Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Jimmy Reed, but mostly has worked with his own groups, cutting a couple 45s and an LP along the way.
Reliable sources have been raving about Big George's gigs for some time, and the music on this disc gives abundant back-up for those accolades. Big George puts his own stamp on the classic Chicago electric blues sound, no small part due to the stellar accompaniment of the Coatie family band, who are right there with him every step of the way. Riley Coatie, Jr. in particular is a highly satisfying and idiosyncratic drummer. Tough stuff all around.
