Mishagas Live Proof of Existence CD $9 |
Raw, urgent free jazz from a young Brooklyn-based trio that was active in the mid-'90s. Live was self-released in an edition of 500 copies with rubberstamped covers and no frills such as fancy packaging, song titles, or personnel listing to give the listener any preconceptions about what will be heard. The band had a strong collective group-think, where the drums lurch and propel, the guitar dishes glistening metallic shards, and the sax skillfully navigates the terrain with a balance of melody and squeal.
Drummer JW Colpitts is now known as Kid Millions in Oneida, guitarist Chris Lee has gone on to record for labels such as Misra and Smells Like Records, and saxophonist Scott Daniel subsequently headed out west for a fulfilling non-music biz life. I liked this band and thought it a shame that more people didn't pick up on them. Here's another chance.
