Lightnin’ Hopkins cut an awful lot of records throughout his career and though he had a pretty strong hitting percentage, my favorites are probably the sides he waxed for Herald (though certainly a strong case can be made for Gold Star). Just Lightnin’ and a drummer, there’s a stark power to these songs that transfixes. This 2010 pressing cherry-picks two of his more rocking sides for the label.
