Charlie Parr's music comes out of the musical heritage of the Piedmont and Appalachia. Blues, rags, high and lonesome tunes, nice slide and fingerpicking, all coming together without sounding forced or as a dissertation on vernacular music, a rare thing for someone performing this music in the present day. On this disc, traditional numbers such as "Walk Around My Bedside" and "God Moves on the Water" comfortably rub shoulders with Parr's originals. There's fire and sincerity here that resonates with me and I enjoy this disc an awful lot.
