| Rev. E. D. Campbell recorded eight 78s for the Victor label in 1927 that feature a mixture of preaching and congregational exuberance/exhortations/singing, occasionally approaching a liner hymn style. Half the tracks are a cappella, half have piano accompaniment. In the liner notes to the Goodbye, Babylon box set, David Evans opined that Rev. Campbell was likely a “jack leg” preacher due to the lack of coherence of some of his sermons. Could’ve fooled me! This one weaves a spell. Covers have one creased corner. |
